Dean Huff (“we,” “our,” or “us”) respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how the 12 Steps Companion app (“the App”) collects, uses, and safeguards your information.

Information We Collect

Information Stored Locally on Your Device:

Sobriety date and calculations
Personal notes and highlights
Book reading preferences (font size, bookmarks)
Custom contacts you add
App settings and preferences

How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to:

Provide and maintain the App’s functionality
Calculate and display your sobriety progress
Sync data between the App and widgets
Save your notes, highlights, and preferences
Improve the App’s performance and fix bugs
Understand how users interact with the App (anonymously)

Data Storage and Security

All personal data (sobriety date, notes, highlights, contacts) is stored locally on your device
Widget data is shared using secure iOS App Groups (only accessible by the App and its widgets)
We do not transmit your personal recovery data to any servers
Your data remains on your device and is protected by your device’s security features
If you delete the App, all your personal data is permanently removed from your device

Third-Party Services

The App uses the following third-party services:Firebase (Google)

Analytics: Collects anonymous usage statistics
Crashlytics: Collects anonymous crash reports

Used only when you choose to share content via Facebook
Only activated when you initiate sharing

Sharing Features

When you use the App’s sharing features (email, messages, social media):

Only the content you explicitly choose to share is transmitted
Shared content includes the text/note you select plus app attribution
We do not access or store what you share
Sharing is handled by your device’s built-in sharing capabilities

Children’s Privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Your Privacy Rights

You have the right to:

Access all data stored by the App (it’s on your device)
Delete your data at any time (by deleting notes, contacts, or the App)
Opt out of analytics (via your device’s settings)
Request information about data practices (contact us)

Data Retention

Your personal data is retained on your device until you delete it or uninstall the App
Anonymous analytics data is retained according to Firebase’s data retention policies
No personal recovery information is stored on our servers

International Users

The App is currently only available to users in the United States. By using the App, you consent to the transfer and processing of information in accordance with U.S. law.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy in the App and updating the “Last Updated” date.

END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT (EULA)

1. License Grant

Subject to your compliance with this Agreement, Dean Huff grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download, install, and use the 12 Steps Companion app on devices you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial use.

2. Restrictions

You agree NOT to:

Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the App
Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices
Rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute, or sublicense the App
Use the App for any commercial purpose
Use the App in any way that violates applicable laws or regulations
Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the App or its systems

3. Intellectual Property Rights

App Ownership:

The App and all its original content, features, and functionality are owned by Dean Huff
The App is protected by United States and international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws

AA Content:

“Big Book” and “Alcoholics Anonymous” are registered trademarks of AA World Services, Inc.
The Big Book content included in the App is used in accordance with AA’s guidelines
This App is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Alcoholics Anonymous World Services, Inc.
Users should support AA by purchasing printed literature from their local central office

Third-Party Content:

Stories from the 1st and 2nd editions are included with respect to copyright restrictions
Only content that is permissible for inclusion has been incorporated

4. User-Generated Content

Your Notes and Highlights:

You retain all rights to notes, highlights, and custom contacts you create in the App
You are solely responsible for any content you create, save, or share through the App
You grant us no rights to your user-generated content
We do not monitor, edit, or control your notes and highlights

5. App Updates and Modifications

We may provide updates, patches, and modifications to the App
Updates may be automatically downloaded and installed
We reserve the right to modify or discontinue the App at any time
We are not liable for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the App

6. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

Warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement
That the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure
That defects will be corrected
That the App is suitable for recovery purposes

This App is a tool for personal use and is not a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment
This App is not a substitute for attending AA meetings, working with a sponsor, or professional counseling
Always seek the advice of qualified professionals regarding recovery and mental health
Never disregard professional medical advice or delay seeking it because of something you read in this App

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:

Dean Huff shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
This includes damages for loss of profits, data, or other intangibles
Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App (if any)
Some jurisdictions do not allow limitation of liability, so these limitations may not apply to you

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Dean Huff from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including attorneys’ fees) arising from:

Your use of the App
Your violation of this Agreement
Your violation of any rights of another party
Content you create or share through the App

9. Privacy

Your use of the App is also governed by our Privacy Policy (above). By using the App, you consent to the data practices described in the Privacy Policy.

10. Termination

By You:

You may terminate this Agreement at any time by deleting the App from all your devices

By Us:

We may terminate or suspend your access to the App immediately, without notice, for any reason
Upon termination, you must cease all use of the App and delete it from your devices
Sections that by their nature should survive termination will survive (including warranty disclaimers and limitations of liability)

11. Geographic Restrictions

The App is intended for use only in the United States
We make no claims that the App is appropriate or available for use outside the United States
If you access the App from outside the United States, you do so at your own risk

12. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

This Agreement is governed by the laws of [Your State], United States, without regard to conflict of law principles
Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of [Your State]
You waive any right to a jury trial
If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full effect

13. Entire Agreement

This Agreement and the Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and Dean Huff
This Agreement supersedes any prior agreements or understandings
No modification of this Agreement shall be effective unless in writing and signed by Dean Huff

You agree to be bound by its terms and conditions
You are at least 18 years of age (or the age of majority in your jurisdiction)
If you do not agree to these terms, do not download, install, or use the App
