Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Dean Huff (“we,” “us,” or “our”) handles the information regarding the use of our mobile applications: 12 Steps AA Companion, 12 Steps Speakers, and Simply AA (collectively, the “Applications” or “App”).

We are committed to protecting your privacy. The Applications are designed to operate with minimal data collection and processing. By using the Applications, you acknowledge the practices described in this policy.


2. Information We Collect and Process (GDPR Legal Basis)

The core design of our Applications is to operate without collecting Personal Data (as defined by GDPR) or Personal Information (as defined by CCPA/CPRA) from you.

What We Collect: An Exception

The Application requests access to your device’s Camera and/or Photo Library for the following, limited purpose:

  • Purpose: To allow you to add images to contacts or custom entries that are stored locally within the App.
  • Legal Basis (GDPR): Consent. Access is only granted after you explicitly approve the permission prompt on your device. You can withdraw this consent at any time by changing your device’s operating system settings.

Important Note: The photos and images you select are NOT transmitted to us or any third party. They are stored only on your mobile device.


3. Data That Stays ONLY on Your Device

All user-generated data (e.g., notes, progress tracking, custom entries, and the images you add via the Photo Library) is stored locally on your mobile device.

  • This local data is not transmitted to us, and we do not have access to it.
  • The data is stored for the purpose of providing the service, as requested by you.
  • You are solely responsible for the security and backup of your device and the local data stored within the Applications.

4. Third-Party Services and Financial Information

In-App Purchases (IAP)

The Applications offer In-App Purchases (IAP).

  • We do not collect or store any of your financial information (e.g., credit card numbers or banking details).
  • All payment processing is handled directly by the App Store (Apple) or Google Play Store (Google).
  • Your transaction data is governed by the respective privacy policies and terms of service of Apple (for iOS) or Google (for Android).

Data Sharing and Selling

We do not share, sell, rent, or trade any personal information or data with third parties.


5. Your Rights Under GDPR (European Economic Area Users)

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights concerning your data. While we collect virtually no personal data, we provide a mechanism for you to exercise these rights:

  • Right to Access: The right to request copies of the Personal Data we hold about you (which will be none).
  • Right to Rectification: The right to request that we correct any information you believe is inaccurate.
  • Right to Erasure (Right to be Forgotten): The right to request that we delete your Personal Data. (Since all user-generated data is stored locally, deleting the App will delete all your local data.)
  • Right to Restrict Processing: The right to request that we restrict the processing of your Personal Data.
  • Right to Object to Processing: The right to object to our processing of your Personal Data.
  • Right to Data Portability: The right to request that we transfer the data we have collected to another organization.
  • Right to Withdraw Consent: The right to withdraw your consent to Camera/Photo Library access at any time via your device’s settings.

You can exercise these rights by contacting us at support@deanhuff.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.


6. Your California Privacy Rights (CCPA/CPRA)

This section applies to California residents. While we do not collect Personal Information as defined under the CCPA/CPRA, we provide this notice to ensure full transparency regarding your rights.

Right to KnowWe do not collect categories of Personal Information, Sensitive Personal Information, or commercial information about you.
Right to DeleteYou can exercise your right to delete by deleting the Applications from your device. This removes all locally stored data. As we do not retain any data, there is nothing for us to delete from our systems.
Right to Opt-Out of Sale/SharingWe do not sell or share your Personal Information. Therefore, no opt-out is necessary.
Right to Limit Sensitive PI UseWe do not collect Sensitive Personal Information.

How to Exercise Your Rights:

Since we do not collect or retain any information that could be used to verify your identity, a formal Verifiable Consumer Request is not applicable. To exercise your rights, you simply delete the Application from your device, or you may contact us at support@deanhuff.com with any questions.


7. Children’s Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

The Applications are intended for users who are 18 years of age or older. We do not knowingly solicit or collect any data from children under the age of 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected any data from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at support@deanhuff.com.

8. Data Security and Retention

Security: Given that we do not collect or transmit user data, the primary security of your data relies on the security features of your operating system (iOS/Android). Retention: Since we do not collect personal data, there is no data to retain.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page and updating the “Last Updated” date at the top of this policy.
